The physical and mechanical properties data of six poplar clones from trial plantations grown at Haldwani (Uttaranchal) based on testing of small clear specimens are reported and discussed. The clones S7 C4 and G3 have given the highest and the lowest specific gravity of 0.418 and 0.362. respectively. This trend is also reflected in most of the strength properties. Clone G 48 has the highest growth rate and most of the nail and screw withdrawal resistance values are also higher than other clones among the different clones of Populus deltoids reported in this paper.- Physical and Mechanical Properties of Different Clones of Populus deltoides - an Assessment

The physical and mechanical properties based on testing of timber of 20 different clones of Populus deltoides obtained from trial plantation have been reported. From the basic data safe working stresses and suitability indices for different properties have also been evaluated and presented. The results indicate considerable variation in the properties of different clones. Clone S7-C3 has been found to have the highest sp. gravity and most ofits strength properties are also higher as compared to other clones. Several clones meet the minimum requirement of strength not only for use as structural timber but also for door shutters, furniture items and packing cases/crates. As the material of different clones was tested from trial plantations it is suggested that more exhaustive testing of the material from other localities will help in drawing firm conclusions.- Physical and Mechanical Properties of Some Exotic Species

Based on the tests conducted on small clear specimens of Acacia benthamii, Casuarina cunninghamiana, Eriobotrya joponica. Milingtonia hortensis, Prosopis juliflora and Thuja orientalis from some localities, their physical and mechanical properties have been reported and discussed. The safe working stresses for structural purposes and suitability indices for various Industrial and engineering uses have also been reported. While the avilable data on all the species is not sufficient for drawing firm conclusions about their utilisation for different end uses, it has been found that Millingtonia hortemis and Prosopis juliflora are more suitable from strength point of view, for constructional purposes, tool handles and railway sleepers. Prosopis juliflora has also been found suitable for dunnage pallets.- Strength Properties and Uses of Bamboos a Review
